Our story started back in 2004. Jordan was a sophisticated, TSN and CNN loving, book reading, emotional and somewhat moody boy and Lauren was a young, eccentric, social and an all-around-bubbly girl. The first time we met was at a luncheon hosted by a mutual friend after church. Lauren pretended to have an interest in the NHL hockey game playing in the background and Jordan showed off his hair braiding skills to prove to Lauren he was quite the catch. This lunch was the start to our long 12 year story.
From there we continued to get to know each other through our youth group every Friday night and through little interactions at church on Sunday mornings. We went through moments of dislike with one another, to somewhat standing each other’s presence, and back to more feelings of dislike. To make this long story short, we ended up realizing that high school Jordan and Lauren may not have worked, but that graduation can change a lot of things. After Jordan discovered Lauren had a new boyfriend in her grade 12 year, Jordan began to see Lauren in a whole new, and more attractive light. To say the least, that boyfriend did not stick around for too long before Jordan and Lauren were spending the summer hanging out together, driving back and forth to visit each other, and starting to see each other in a whole new light. It took the better part of six months of our “friendship dating” before Jordan asked Lauren out, but on a cold night, while skating on a frozen river in the middle of Winnipeg, Jordan asked Lauren to be his girlfriend and she said “yes.” It took around 9 years in total, but again, to make a very long story short, we realized that we were better together.
HOW HE ASKED
Through the course our relationship, Jordan became extremely aware of my stealthy detective abilities when it comes to “guessing” presents and “accidentally finding out about” surprise parties. Knowing this, he knew that our engagement would have to be meticulously planned and well hidden from myself. One of the best ways to disguise this proposal was through using the company we founded (Prairie Film Co.) as a ploy to distract myself by operating in a business mindset. On September 6th, 2015, Jordan had informed me that we had arrangements to film a promotional video for good friends of ours who are wedding photographers in the city. They were taking engagement photos for a couple and wanted us to get action shots of them at work so that we could compile a brand video for them. Little did I know that he had set the whole thing up up, and the we were the main subjects. After a short shoot he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.. AND I SAID YES!
We are so excited for the future and what it is going to bring for us. We realized that we are better as a team than by ourselves and that we want to do life together. We are thrilled to be getting married on July 24th, 2016 and can’t wait to celebrate our love together and with our dear friends surrounding us.
