Summer 2020 - Brereton Lake

Swimming at Brereton Lake

Since we were married back in 2016 we've made an intentional effort to travel together whenever possible. We've been fortunate enough to be able to travel to British Columbia each year to celebrate our anniversary by surfing in Tofino or taking in the wine country of Vancouver Island. We've always enjoyed our summer getaways, but 2020 had to look a little different.

2020 tossed a number of curveballs our way, both professionally and personally. While we've had to rearrange a couple things in our lives, overall we're grateful to have remained relatively unscathed by the global pandemic. The loss of our summer travel is the least of our worries, especially when we're able to enjoy some vacation and relaxation right here in our own province.

Lauren's family has had a cottage at Brereton Lake in the Whiteshell since the 1930s. Generations of cousins, aunts, uncles and friends have spent loads of summer quality time together at the lake. This summer, when it became clear that we weren't going to jump on any planes this year, we made a commitment to hang out together at the lake this summer, as much as we could!

We've spent plenty of time fishing (2020 was a great year for fishing at Brereton), swimming (especially on hot nights before bed), hiking (there are some awesome and easily accessible trails around) and even playing tennis (a newly acquired sport for me). In August we were able to take a week of vacation and leave our phones on airplane mode while enjoying good food and drink together.

2020 has undeniably looked different, but we're thankful for our little piece of heaven at Brereton Lake.
